Central Louisiana employers from a number of companies spanning multiple industries form a strong network of commerce that is fundamental to the region's economy. From traditional manufacturing operations that produce goods and supplies for some of the world's top brands to utility companies and electrical fabrication operations, employers in Central Louisiana are diverse.

  • Cleco Corporation is a publicly-traded energy services company with headquarters in Pineville. The electric utility employs approximately 1,200 in the area that work to serve nearly 300,000 customers across the state.

  • Crest Industries is a holding company that employs more than 600 across its Louisiana-based subsidiaries, serving customers in industries ranging from electric utilities and forestry. In 2014, the company announced a 22,500-square-foot expansion of its Pineville headquarters that will build upon its current employee base of approximately 250, adding capacity for jobs ranging from engineering and forestry to business development and marketing.

  • Fort Polk is a U.S. Army installation located an hour from Alexandria near Leesville. With a workforce of more than 14,500 employees, Fort Polk is one of the largest employers in the state and is home to a number of brigades and military units. The presence of the base also serves as an anchor for area small businesses and support service firms that supply goods to support the operations and activities of the U.S. Army.

  • Plastipak Packaging is a global packaging manufacturer that operates multiple sites across the U.S., including its Pineville manufacturing facility where the company employs approximately 300 area residents. The packaging giant manufactures more than 20 billion containers per year with annual sales that exceed $2 billion in supplying packaging to some of the world’s top brands, including Procter & Gamble Co. and Kraft.

  • Procter & Gamble Co., one of the world’s largest manufacturers of consumer packaged goods, operates a soap and detergent production facility in Pineville that produces dry and liquid detergents such as Tide, Cheer and Gain. The company employs approximately 500, and hundreds of contract workers also support the facility as one of the largest Procter & Gamble detergent operations in the world.

  • Roy O. Martin, one of the largest independently owned lumber companies in the South and headquartered in Central Louisiana, has a land base of 570,000 acres of prime southern pine and fine hardwoods throughout the state. The company also employs approximately 800 at its Martco plywood manufacturing facility located in Chopin, just a half hour from Alexandria.

  • Union Tank Car Manufacturing, a division of Union Tank Car Company, operates a railroad tank car plant at its manufacturing facility located at England Airpark in Alexandria. The company employs more than 500 and serves the railroad industry as well as shippers that rely on rail to distribute goods to customers across the U.S.

  • Weyerhaeuser Company, a publicly traded company, operates multiple forestry-related businesses and maintains more than 20 million acres of forests in the U.S. and Canada. The company's Dodson-based plywood manufacturing facility employs more than 300 and serves the lumber needs of a variety of markets ranging from residential to multi-family and light commercial.
