Alexandria Museum of Art Promotes Art Appreciation

View All Arts & Music

Opened in 1997, the Alexandria Museum of Art preserves and promotes art and art history in Central Louisiana through its events, exhibitions and educational programs. Other activities and learning opportunities include concerts, yoga classes and lectures.

On the second Saturday of every month, the museum hosts its Second Saturday Market. Visitors enjoy browsing artwork created by local artists, listening to live music and taking museum tours throughout the day.

Members of the museum's teen art club, dubbed "The Muse," create works of art with the potential for display in the museum. Members also participate in community events, earn volunteer hours and perform at open mic gatherings. After-hours programming brings in lectures, poetry readings and a monthly Acoustic Concert Series held the third Thursday of each month.

In addition to its many events and activities, the museum also works to educate local K-12 teachers in the arts, helping them to better their schools' art programs and courses.
