The Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts (LSMSA) in Natchitoches is a nationally-recognized residential public high school that selects top students from around the state for admission. According to The Washington Post, LSMSA is among a nationwide list of “public elite” high schools due to student achievement and high quality curriculum programs. Each year, LSMSA produces national merit finalists and scholars as well as numerous students who compete and win in high-level arts and math, science and engineering contests.

Seventy-three percent of the faculty holds a Ph.D., M.F.A or equivalent terminal degree. Rigorous and engaging instruction takes place in all departments, which include:

  • Creative and performing arts, including music, theater, dance, visual arts and creative writing
  • Foreign languages
  • Health/physical education, including wellness coursework and intramural teams
  • Math and computer science, including an Excellence in Computer Science program
  • Science, featuring state-of-the-art labs for biology, chemistry and physics

Students at LSMSA have the opportunity to participate in numerous varsity athletic teams including girls and boys basketball, and girls and coed volleyball.
