BACK TO Private Schools

Alexandria Country Day School is a pre-kindergarten-through-8th-grade independent private school whose students win top honors in regional and state competitions in cross-country running and academic contests. Alexandria Country Day embraces technology through a digital library and film lab where students can create and edit original films.

The curriculum in pre-kindergarten and initial elementary years stresses reading, math and other core subjects. Over time, students achieve a mastery of skills and subject matter through sequential, increasingly in-depth exploration of math, science, fine arts, music, foreign languages and English. High-achieving learners in upper grades can earn high school credit hours in algebra, science, foreign language and computer literacy. Children in all grades participate in 30 to 50 minutes of daily physical education promoting health and fitness while providing instruction in archery, soccer, flag football and more.

Country Day encourages its students to join sports teams and extracurricular clubs. Students in higher grades compete against parochial, public and private schools in basketball, soccer and cross-country running. There is also a basketball program for all students in 1st through 8th grade. Campus organizations include Math Counts, cheerleading, Junior Beta Club and a student literary magazine. Students' community and public service efforts in 2013-14 included raising money for UNICEF and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
