BACK TO Public Schools

Vernon Middle School in Leesville is a 5th-and-6th-grade Vernon Parish public school with a primary curriculum focused on academic fundamentals, such as English, science, math and reading. Students are encouraged to participate in an Accelerated Reader program, which highlights award-winning books in the library and celebrates them with events, such as a spring Book Fair Fiesta.

Community service is also an important element of campus life. In 2014, its 116-member K-Kids Kiwanis-sponsored club raised more than $1,500 to purchase holiday gifts for children in need through its Angel Tree project. Another area of pride on the Vernon campus is music. In March 2014, the school choir received a rating of "excellent" at the statewide competition in Lake Charles.
