Scenic Views at Chicot State Park

View All Outdoors

Trails for hikers, mountain bikers and birdwatchers encircle 2,000-acre Chicot Lake. The lake, located one hour south of Alexandria near Ville Platte, is the focal point of Chicot State Park and is a year-round attraction for anglers, boaters, campers and outdoor enthusiasts. More than 20 miles of trails provide views of the forest, including wide-open views of the lake. These scenic roadways link the park’s boat landings and double as cycling paths.

The 6,400-acre park includes a bottomland hardwood forest, watery cypress-tupelo stands and an expansive beech-magnolia forest within the Louisiana State Arboretum, which lies within park boundaries. The Arboretum provides educational information about the habitat, including trails with labeled plant life. Additional park amenities include a boathouse, three boat docks, boat-rental facilities, a splash pad and playground and a 400-foot fishing pier. Chicot State Park features extensive picnicking areas, many of which offer views of Lake Chicot, grills, tables and pavilions. Overnight accommodations range from primitive campsites to furnished, air-conditioned guest cabins with screened porches overlooking the lake.
