Wild and Cultivated Land at Hodges Gardens

View All Outdoors

Hodges Gardens State Park, also known as “the garden in the forest,” contains more than 700 acres of maintained gardens and protected forests bordering a broad, curved lake. Located approximately 20 miles north of Leesville, the park comprises a diverse selection of flora and fauna with arbors, pavilions, waterfalls and tended walkways throughout. Roads wind around the park for cyclists, and recreational boating on the lake is made easier through kayak and canoe rentals. A pier stretching into the lake provides up-close wildlife viewing and fishing access.

In addition to the walkways, guests can enjoy stargazing in a massive field providing distance from nearby city lights, and several groups host a variety of astronomy events.

The park also hosts a number of gatherings centered in the gardens, including an annual Sabine Parish Positive Achievement for Learning Success summer program. The day includes everything from nature education to boating and fishing to art and music. The event concludes with an art display and a lakefront musical performance by the students.
