Central Louisiana Parks and Recreation

Central Louisiana’s parks and recreation system is home to a number of facilities that feature fields, courts, playgrounds and water parks. Organized-sports enthusiasts can find a variety to choose from, featuring everything from adult softball to flag football leagues. Numerous baseball leagues dot the area including the Alexandria and Pineville area. City leagues in Alexandria include several options from softball and volleyball to soccer and basketball. Central Louisiana is also home to the Derby Dames – a roller derby league that is part of the Women's Flat Track Association.

Residents who want to strike up a casual game among friends have access to many fields, courts, golf courses and disc golf courses, which are all maintained as an extension of the area's parks. Exceptional options include Johnny Downs Sports Complex, a large soccer complex with five full-sized fields and nearly one dozen smaller fields; the Tennis Complex, which hosts local and collegiate tournaments and maintains eight courts; and the Bringhurst Field where the Aces play baseball. Central Louisiana boasts nine city parks and also maintains trails where residents can run or train for races, such as the Red River Run 10K.

Central Louisiana's parks, piney forests and lakes offer outdoor recreation opportunities throughout the year. Lakes and waterways provide open water for sports such as water skiing, including Cotile Lake, which doubles as one of the region’s most popular outdoor destinations for fishing.

Alexandria's 34 parks feature wide-open grassy spaces and jogging paths, with parks located across the city. Nearly one dozen of these parks provide paved trails. These parks are also undergoing renovations to increase the number of paths, spaces, fields and courts available to park visitors.
